NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact:
Rich Schaefers
Chairman, Mendocino Winegrape & Wine Commission
(707) 462-6624
richs@beckstoffer.net

(Ukiah, CA, July 24, 2009)–Two new commissioners and three incumbents have been elected to the Mendocino Winegrape & Wine Commission (MWWC) Board of Directors: Incumbents Rich Schaefers of Beckstoffer Vineyards, Norma Gibson of Hillside Vineyards, and Peter Chevalier of Chevalier Vineyard Management remain for second terms representing producers.  Chris Nelson of Nelson Vineyards replaces departing Gary Smith of Smith Vineyards.  Tim Thornhill of Mendocino Wine Company replaces Arnaud Weyrich of Roederer Estate in the sole open vintner slot.  Commissioners serve two year terms and will begin their service at the August Board of Directors meeting.

The organization is also preparing to launch a search for a full time in-house president.  Paige Poulos, who served as president of the Commission from May 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009, under a management contract with Paige Poulos Communications, Inc., agreed with the decision as the best course of action for the organization and its constituents.  “The Commission needs a full time dedicated chief executive,” Poulos said.  “This is more true than ever in a market that continues to be challenging on every front.”  Board Chairman Rich Schaefers will execute the duties of the president in the interim, a dual role allowed in the by-laws.  “We very much appreciate the momentum we have gained in the past year with Poulos at the helm and plan to capitalize on the foundation that has been laid as we go forward,” Schaefers said.  The Strategic Task Force and the Executive Committee will work together to develop a new job description for the president based on the skills needed to execute the new strategic plan developed this year.
